The Department is a vital player in the delivery of childcare services in Inuktitut throughout the region. Its primary role is to support the 19 childcare centres located in every community. Because the Department possesses solid technical and professional resources, for several years it has been responsible for the regional administration of provincial childcare laws, regulations and financial assistance. These responsibilities include issuing permits and inspecting childcare centres to ensure the enrolled children are appropriately looked after and applicable laws and regulations are complied with. Nunavik childcare centres offer not less than 250 full-time job positions, including educators, directors, cooks and janitors.
