Based in Kuujjuaq, Quebec, the Director of Recreation is as a strategic business partner in recreation, sports and fitness programs and services for the KRG, and the 14 villages located within Nunavik. The incumbent plans, organizes, controls and evaluates the operations of comprehensive recreational, sports and fitness programs and services. He/she will provide leadership to a team that delivers recreational, leisure and sport activities, to promote healthy lifestyles in Nunavik. As Director, you will liaise with many community/sport groups, agencies and various municipal, provincial and federal stakeholders to build strong networks and connections across Nunavik; while providing direction for the development and facilitation of strategies and initiatives relevant to recreation, sports and fitness programs for Nunavik.
Who Can Apply:
Applicants should possess a post-secondary degree in recreology, physical education, sports administration or a related filed or a college diploma in recreation management or sports administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Several years of experience in an occupation related to recreation and sports administration, consulting or programming.
The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with an ability for presentation and facilitation. Must be a strategic thinker and have the ability to plan, organize and be resourceful. Must have demonstrated initiative and a willingness to be a team player, be able to work independently and under pressure. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to maintain a high degree of tact, decision making and discretion.
English is the working language although the ability to communicate effectively in Inuktitut and/or French would also be an asset.
Municipal Recreation Director’s Certificate would be consider an asset.
In accordance with this and with the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement, conditions may vary to promote the employment of Inuit candidates.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience and in accordance with the KRG Management Salary Grid.
Two (2) year term position with possibility of extension.
