Press Release: New Interim Social Housing Rent Scale Reached with Quebec: Significant Relief for Low and Medium Income Households

Kuujjuaq, Québec, May 1, 2017 – Inuit leaders from Makivik Corporation (Makivik) and the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) have reached an agreement-in-principle with the Government of Québec, subject to ratification by Cabinet, on an interim social housing rent scale that will decrease rent for the vast majority of Nunavik Inuit living in social housing units.

Press Release: Extension of the Agreement on Nunavik Cost-of-Living Measures And Addition to the Household Appliance and Harvesting Equipment Program

Kuujjuaq, Québec, April 27, 2017 – The Agreement on the Financing of Measures to Reduce the Cost of Living in Nunavik administered by the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) has been extended until March 2018. This one-year extension will allow the KRG, the Makivik Corporation and the Québec government to pursue negotiations to define effective and long-lasting solutions to the high cost of living in Nunavik, based on the conclusions of the two-year research report completed by Université Laval in November 2016.

Nunivaat Update, first quarter of 2017

Based on a long history of cooperation between the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) and Université Laval, Nunivaat was established in 2005 as a permanent, public and independent statistics program on the socioeconomic situation of Nunavik. Nunivaat is directed by Université Laval and funded by the KRG.




NUNAVIK COST OF LIVING SURVEY – After the official presentation at KRG Regional Council last November, “The Cost of Living Survey. Research Report” was presented to several occasions. The report is available in the Nunivaat database’s Publications section both in English and in French.
