Press Release: New COL Report: "An Important First Step towards Sustainable Solutions"

Kuujjuaq, Québec, December 8, 2016 – Following 16 months of intensive data collection and meticulous analysis, the "Cost of Living in Nunavik Research Report" was made public during the Kativik Regional Government’s (KRG) November council sitting. The study represents the outcome of an important collaborative effort between the Québec government, the KRG and Makivik Corporation who mandated Université Laval to evaluate the region’s cost of living and at the same time providing input for discussions on long-term solutions.

Press Release: Adding More Cheer to the Christmas Season

Kuujjuaq, QC, December 6th2016 – The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) and the Makivik Corporation help make Christmas dinner a little more affordable in Nunavik communities. Until December 31st under the Food and Other Essentials Program, Nunavimmiut will be able to buy whole turkeys and hams (over 2.5 kg) sold at local grocery stores for half the regular price.

Update, July-September 2016: NUNIVAAT - Nunavik Statistics Program

Based on a long history of cooperation between the Kativik Regional Government (KRG)
and Université Laval, Nunivaat was
established in 2005 as a permanent, public and independent statistics program on the socioeconomic situation of Nunavik. Nunivaat is
directed by Université Laval and funded by the KRG.


Study on the Cost of Living in Nunavik – In December 2013, the KRG, the Makivik Corporation and the Québec government agreed to fund a study to generate hard data on the cost of living in Nunavik through in-depth analysis of the consumer patterns of Inuit households with a view to developing a comparative cost of living index.
