Policing Media Release - Important Seizure in Kangiqsujuaq
Kuujjuaq, Québec, May 27, 2016 – Public-police collaboration in Kangiqsujuaq led the Kativik Regional Police Force (KRPF) to an important seizure of hashish oil in that community earlier this week. The amount of drugs seized is the second most important in the region after a similar police operation took place in Salluit last March.
Weekends in the Parks – 2nd Edition - Come Spend the Summer with Us!
Kuujjuaq, Québec, May 23, 2016 – The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) and Nunavik Parks are pleased to announce Weekends in the Parks for the second consecutive year. Thirteen summer discovery packages are being organized in 2016 for Nunavik residents at Parc national des Pingualuit, Parc national Kuururjuaq and Parc national Tursujuq. Activities include hiking, canoeing and kayaking, camping, wildlife observation, relaxing next to a park cabin, contact with our local guides and immersion in the magic of Nunavik’s natural environments.
Update, January-March 2016: NUNIVAAT - NUNAVIK STATISTICS PROGRAM
Based on a long history of cooperation between the Kativik Regional Government (KRG)
and Université Laval, Nunivaat was established in 2005 as a permanent, public and independent statistics program on the socioeconomic situation of Nunavik. Nunivaat is
directed by Université Laval and funded by the KRG.
RESEARCH AND RELATED ACTIVITIES
Study on the Cost of Living in Nunavik – Data collection work under the study is now complete. A total of 450 households were surveyed in Kangiqsualujjuaq, Kuujjuaq, Tasiujaq, Salluit, Puvirnituq and Umiujaq, as targeted. Data processing and analysis work is continuing at Université Laval and a final report is expected for next fall. Under the Agreement on the Financing of Measures to Reduce the Cost of Living in Nunavik signed in 2013, the Makivik Corporation, the KRG and the Québec government made a commitment to use the results of this study to define effective and long-term solutions to the region’s high cost of living. Discussions are also underway to permit the cost-of-living in Nunavik database to remain available so as to feed decisions regarding the Nunavik Cost-of-Living Reduction Measures.
Press Release: Hydro Québec’s Second-Tier Electricity Rate Increase Will Hurt Nunavik
Kuujjuaq, Québec, April 4, 2016 – The Makivik Corporation and the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) disapprove of a recent decision by the Régie de l’énergie (energy board) to permit Hydro Québec to apply an annual 8% increase to the second-tier residential rate for off- grid networks north of the 53rd parallel beginning on April 1, 2016, including for the networks in the 14 northern villages.
