Press Release: International Day of Older Persons – Nunavik Edition “Nothing For Us Without Us!”

Kuujjuaq, Québec, September 30, 2015 – The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) and the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services (NRBHSS) are pleased to jointly participate on October 1 in the celebration in Nunavik of the International Day of Older Persons, under the regional theme "Nothing For Us Without Us!" Tune into Taqramiut Nipingat Inc. regional radio (FM 94.1) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Listeners including elders will be invited to call in to express their appreciation of Nunavik elders or voice their concerns about elders’ issues.

Kuujjuaq, Québec, September 15, 2015 – The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), the Nunivaat – Nunavik Statistics Program and Université Laval announce the release of Nunavik in Figures 2015 – Pocket Edition. The statistical publication contains a summary of the most recent data available for the region on population, language, employment, education, income, prices, dwellings and health care.

Press Release: Nunavik leaders presented the Parnasimautik Consultation Report

Quebec City, Québec, August 19, 2015 – Nunavik leaders presented the Parnasimautik Consultation Report (We are Preparing) to the Plan Nord Ministerial Committee in Quebec City.

The report is the outcome of the most comprehensive community consultation ever carried out in the history of Nunavik. It presents a vision for the future of Nunavik Inuit, families and communities, as well as for the renewal of the relationship with regional organizations, the governments of Quebec and Canada, and industrial developers.

Nunivaat was initiated by the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) in 2005 to
establish a permanent, public and independent statistics program on the
socioeconomic situation of Nunavik
. Nunivaat is directed by Université Laval.


Study on the Cost of Living in Nunavik – Under the Agreement on the Financing of Measures to Reduce the Cost of Living in Nunavik signed in 2013, the Makivik Corporation, the KRG and the Québec government made a commitment to use the results of this study to define effective and long-term solutions to the region’s high cost of living. Data collection work is currently taking place in six selected communities, specifically Kangiqsualujjuaq, Kuujjuaq, Tasiujaq, Salluit, Puvirnituq and Umiujaq. As of the end of June, 125 households had been surveyed and, by the end of September, an additional 100 households are expected to have been surveyed. The results of the study are expected to be ready for release in 2016.
