Kativik Regional Government


Nunivaat was initiated by the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) in 2005 to
establish a permanent, public and independent statistics program on the
socioeconomic situation of Nunavik
. Nunivaat is directed by Université Laval.


Study on the Cost of Living in Nunavik – Data collection work under the study is now running at full speed. To date, 76% of the targeted 450 households have been surveyed in Kangiqsualujjuaq, Kuujjuaq, Tasiujaq, Salluit, Puvirnituq and Umiujaq. Each randomly selected participating household is asked to collect receipts for two weeks and to complete a diary of daily expenses; in return, the houseolds are paid $100.

Press Release: Emergency Response Exercise at the Kuujjuaq Airport

Kuujjuaq, Québec, November 4, 2015 – Local firefighters, first responders, local and regional healthcare personnel, officers of the Kativik Regional Police Force (KRPF) and management personnel of the Transportation and Public Security departments of the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) conducted a full-scale emergency response exercise at the Kuujjuaq airport yesterday. More than 35 volunteers also took part.

Press Release: Breakfast for Better Learning Campaign

Kuujjuaq, October 9, 2015 – The Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services is very proud to launch its new campaign “Breakfast for Better Learning” across the region. Aimed at promoting the importance of breakfast for schoolchildren, a complete kit of educational activities and promotional materials focussing on breakfast was created to help this campaign spring into action in classrooms. The material includes a poster, a factsheet, classroom discussion about breakfast ideas, educational activities and a booklet about healthy food.

Sun Transit Period - Autumn 2015

As many of you are probably aware, we are approaching the sun transit period for autumn 2015.

This is the time of the year where for a short period in the afternoon, the sun, the satellite and our satellite dish will be in a straight line for a few minutes. During this time, radio emission from solar radiation will cause enough interference with the signal from the satellite to interrupt the Internet service. This year, the sun transit period will begin on October 10th and finish on October 15th. The interruption will begin at approximately 3:35 PM and finish at the latest at 5:15 PM.
