“The upgrading of our airport infrastructure is vital for the well-being and growth of Nunavik. The new terminal in Inukjuak is the sixth project to have been completed in recent years and is the product of a successful collaboration between the KRG and the Québec government’s transportation department,” stated KRG Chairperson Jennifer Munick. “Our community airports are the doorway to Nunavik and I’m proud to see that Inukjuamiut have a beautiful place to welcome family, friends and visitors.”

The $25.2-million Inukjuak airport upgrading project was launched in the summer of 2015 and the new infrastructure have been functional since 2016. The airports in 13 Nunavik communities, including Inukjuak, are owned by the Ministère des Transports, de la Mobilité durable et de l’Électrification des transports (transportation, sustainable mobility and transport electrification, MTMDET). The Kativik Regional Government has been responsible for managing, operating and maintaining these airports since 1996.

After the opening ceremony at the Inukjuak airport, the KRG Chairperson and senior management representatives met with elected municipal officials to share information on local development projects and priorities.
