Kativik Regional Government

Nunivaat Update, first quarter of 2017

Based on a long history of cooperation between the Kativik Regional Government (KRG) and Université Laval, Nunivaat was established in 2005 as a permanent, public and independent statistics program on the socioeconomic situation of Nunavik. Nunivaat is directed by Université Laval and funded by the KRG.




NUNAVIK COST OF LIVING SURVEY – After the official presentation at KRG Regional Council last November, “The Cost of Living Survey. Research Report” was presented to several occasions. The report is available in the Nunivaat database’s Publications section both in English and in French. 


NUNIVAAT BULLETIN – A 9th issue of Nunivaat Bulletin has been produced. It has been distributed at the last KRG Regional Council in February and afterwards widely in Nunavik. That issue, available in English and in French, gave in a nutshell the main findings of the Cost of Living Survey in Nunavik.


SPECIAL 10TH ANNIVERSARY ISSUE - 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of Nunivaat.org. To commemorate this, a special issue is being planed to be released by the end of the year. It would illustrate main changes over a 10 years period of Nunavik statistical coverage.


COST OF LIVING PHASE II – Nunivaat team is ready to start working on the migration of the COL data into a searchable database. That tool will be use in the coming months to support the negociation process for a permanent cost of living reduction program


AD HOC ACTIVITY – At the request of the Nunavik Regional Working Group on Food Security, the Nunivaat team collaborated with the group for a better understanding of the main findings of the Cost of Living Survey. The Nunivaat team was also solicited by KRG to provide with data about the rate of people depending on elders’ income.

Potential avoidable mortality, birth-related indicators, dependency ratio -  Statistics Canada
